Our Story

Since 1980, Little People's College has proudly served families with a commitment to quality early education and care. Our story began with two sisters, Sandy Rego and Joyce deSousa, mothers of young children and former public school teachers who wanted to return to their careers. As they searched for the right childcare for their own children, they realized what they were looking for didn't quite exist — so they created it. With a passion for early education and a vision for a place families could truly trust, they rented a fellowship hall, partnered on their very first school, and Little People's College was born.
Over the years, Little People's College has grown and evolved, much like the children inside our doors. What began as a shared dream has blossomed into two thriving organizations. As one branch of the Little People's College family, we are proud to serve the New Bedford and Dartmouth communities and beyond.
Today, this branch proudly operates under the direction of Dr. Kimberly Rego-Watkins, with daily leadership provided by Monique Avila - Collectively continuing the founders' vision with the same passion, dedication, and family-centered values.
Meaningful work like this is never done alone, the LPC Family lives by the "Ubuntu" philosophy, ("I am because we are"). Our family has been built into a strong team of leaders, coaches, educators, and dedicated professionals who work both in our classrooms and behind the scenes to ensure every child and family feels supported and cared for.
We take great pride in knowing that our team treats every child with the same love, care and attention we would give our own. Our dedicated team provides a nurturing, safe, and respectful environment where each child is encouraged to grow to their fullest potential — physically, emotionally, socially, cognitively, and in language development.
Our Mission
To inspire team members, children, and families to create a community that promotes cultural diversity, peaceful conflict resolution, environmental awareness, human values, and world citizenship through the development of each child's social, emotional, spiritual, and conscious growth.
Our Vision
To cultivate opportunities to maintain a sense of wonder, a creative spirit, and an enthusiasm for learning. A place where interactions embody the development of an understanding of peace within ourselves and with others. To cultivate humanity through activities that support a thriving planet in a nurturing and accepting environment where each member feels safe, secure, respected, and loved.
